In the US they call the Magistrates judges generally, but they have Magistrates. US courts can only deal with fictions too, namely the US citizen. They have no jurisdiction over The People who are sovereign or citizens of the pre 1868 states which are still there but unpopulated except for
one that I know of.
I believe you can enter a court room and as long as you stay by the public gallery you will not enter their jurisdiction. I've attached a doc I wrote and originally uploaded on TPUC titled "Blood Test Refusal Irish Court Case". I'm sure you will remember
the thread. On day two you can see that he was at the back of the court listening before he was called.
In a US court, as I understand it, crossing the bar means moving from the public gallery to where the defendant and prosecutor sit.
